How We Grow and Forage Botanicals for Our Products

One of the things that makes Missouri MilkMaid unique is our commitment to using nature whenever possible. While many skincare products rely heavily on synthetic ingredients, we love incorporating real botanicals that are grown and foraged with care.

For our owner, Adisyn, soapmaking isn't the only passion—gardening has always held a special place in her heart. Over the years, those two passions naturally came together. What began as growing beautiful flowers and fresh vegetables soon expanded into cultivating herbs and botanicals that could be used in the handcrafted products she creates. There's something incredibly rewarding about planting a seed, watching it grow, and eventually transforming it into an ingredient that nourishes someone's skin.

Throughout the year, you'll often find us in the garden, walking fence rows, or exploring the woods and fields around our farm. Many of the herbs and flowers used in our products are grown right here or responsibly foraged when they're in season. Calendula, plantain, yarrow, lemon balm, marshmallow root, elderflower, and other botanicals have become some of our favorite ingredients to work with.

Each plant is harvested at its peak, carefully dried, and stored to preserve its natural beauty and quality. Some are infused into nourishing oils for weeks before they ever make it into one of our soaps, salves, or skincare products. Others are added as gentle natural colorants or beautiful botanical toppings that make every bar feel like a little piece of nature.

Responsible foraging is incredibly important to us. We never take more than we need, always leave plenty behind for wildlife and future growth, and only harvest plants that we can confidently identify. Caring for the land today helps ensure these beautiful resources will continue to thrive for generations to come.

Not every ingredient can be grown on our farm or sustainably foraged in our area, so we also partner with trusted small businesses that share our commitment to quality. This allows us to offer products made with the best ingredients while still supporting other small farms and family-owned businesses.

We believe knowing where your ingredients come from matters. Whether it's fresh raw goat milk from our own goats, herbs picked from the garden, or wild botanicals gathered during a quiet walk through the countryside, every ingredient has a story before it ever reaches your home.

When you choose Missouri MilkMaid, you're choosing products inspired by the seasons, handcrafted in small batches, and rooted in a love for agriculture, gardening, nature, and simple living. We hope every bar of soap brings a little piece of the farm into your daily routine.
